Fortis Healthcare Ltd has further expanded its presence in the South through an arrangement with Mysore-based Cauvery Hospital Ltd, whereby Fortis will make available its speciality cardiac care facilities at Cauvery Hospital.

Fortis Hospitals, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Fortis Healthcare, entered into an agreement with Cauvery Hospital Limited, wherein Fortis will set up, operate and manage a cardiac centre in the hospital, Fortis said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Fortis said the move was in line with Fortis' strategy to expand its reach and provide quality healthcare services in India's tier II and tier III cities.

Cauveri Hospital is a 138-bed hospital in Mysore, which specialises in orthopaedic and general surgery. The addition of Cauvery Hospital takes the Fortis network in the country to a total of over 54 hospitals spread across 13 states with 8,000 beds.

Cauvery Hospital, set up by Dr Chandrasekar in 2006, is being operated as a charity trust and offers comprehensive medical services with special focus on orthopaedics, cardiology, neurosurgery, paediatrics and general surgery.

The cardiac unit will bring facilities like a new operation theatre, a cath lab, post-cath recovery unit, CVTS, ICU, MICU and space for establishing single bed, double bed facility and wards.
