By Our Corporate Bureau | 22 May 2006

GAIL India Ltd has entered into naphtha marketing for the first time. On 19 May  2006, it supplied its first tanker-load of naphtha from its Pata plant in UP to NTPC's Auraiya unit.

The production of naphtha as a by-product of LPG fractionation was started for the first time at GAIL's Pata plant after successful modifications in the process parameters. To begin with, the company will be supplying approximately 14,000 MT per annum of naphtha from this plant to NTPC, Auraiya.

Similar process changes have been planned at other GAIL plants located at Vijaipur in MP and Gandhar in Gujarat in the near future, and the production of naphtha from these locations has already been contracted to NTPC's Anta unit.

GAIL will manufacture about 65,000 MT per annum at all its locations put together.
