GE Shipping orders two new Supramax dry bulk carriers

Mumbai: The Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd (GE Shipping) has announced that the Company has placed an order for two new-buildings Supramax Dry Bulk Carriers of approx 57,000 dwt each.

These vessels are being built at the Cosco Shipyard Co. Ltd at Zhoushan, and are expected to join the company's fleet during Q4 FY 2009-10.

According to the company, these dry bulk vessels will not only add to the overall tonnage of the company's fleet but will also allow it to participate in the increasing opportunities in the dry bulk commodities trade.

GE Shipping has already contracted to buy two new-buildings Kamsarmax dry bulk carriers in October of this year, which are now expected to join the company's fleet in Q4 FY 2010-11 & Q1 FY 2011-12 respectively.

With the latest contract for the Supramaxbulk carriers, the company's current new-building order book now comprises of eight vessels, aggregating 0.57 mn dwt. These orders comprise of 4 LRI product tankers, aggregating 0.30 Mn dwt, and  4 dry bulk carriers aggregating 0.27 mn dwt.
