Mumbai: General Motors India (GMI) has launched its much-awaited hatch-back version of the Corsa titled Opel Corsa Sail.

The Opel Corsa Sail will be available in two versions — 1.4- and 1.6-litre petrol engines — priced at Rs 4.39 lakh and Rs 4.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively, according to Aditya Vij, president and managing director, GM India.

The Corsa Sail is also available in notch-back and station-wagon versions. GM is now planning to get into volumes sales of the Corsa and doubling its sales of the present 7,000 units.

GM's strategy is now focused on its two brands, the Opel and the Chevrolet. While the former will cater to the premium market, the latter is scheduled to cater to the bigger mainstream market.

Earlier, reports had suggested that the Daewoo Matiz look-alike Spark and the sports utility vehicle (SUV) Panther will be launched under the Chevrolet brand.

Vij says GM India has invested Rs 1,200 crore in India. "This would go up to Rs 1,300 crore at the company's plant in Halol, Gujarat, with a large part of the investment going for future launches."
