New Delhi: The recent past has seen a rise in the sales of counterfeit products in the market. In this scenario, Godrej Consumer Products (www.godrejcp.com) has been most proactive for the past few months in its crusade to stem the fakes in the market. And bring to book illegal manufacturers.

In a recent incident, the company came down strongly on a manufacturer of counterfeit Godrej powder hair dye in the market of Ghaziabad. The Ghaziabad police have nabbed the offenders and registered a case under the Copyright Act.

It was found that counterfeit products of Godrej Hair Dye were available loose in sachets of four instead of the original three sachets in a carton pack and they contained only raw henna powder and inadequate para-phenylenediamine. It was found that the low content of PPD in the fakes can cause skin irritation besides being ineffective.

Says Godrej Consumer Products executive director and president H K Press: "The distributors and the consumers should be careful when they buy the products. It is very important for distributors to buy products only from authorised Godrej salespersons or agents. The fake products are available at unusually low prices thus attracting the consumers, but the implications of these products are long-term as it can harm the skin and hair."

"We are taking serious action against the fake hair dye racket and as a precaution we urge consumers to buy the products only from credible retail outlets and to always conduct the hypersensitivity test before applying the hair dye," he says. The original Godrej hair dye sachets are available in threes in a carton pack and are priced at Rs 7.00 each.
