Google Instant arrives in India

07 Oct 2010

Search engine giant Google will begin rolling out its new search interface, Google Instant in India today onwards, it said in a statement.

The service, which was launched in September, displays search results continuously as the user keys in the search parameters along with auto-complete predictions, and scroll-to-search functionality.

Instant will be available on google.co.in, the Indian website following the rollout.

Speaking about the user responses to Google Instant around the world, the company said, ''In just two weeks, we saw an increase in the fraction of searches performed without hitting enter or clicking search.''

It added that there was a seven per cent increase in on-the fly editing of search queries.

Since the launch, Google has extended Instant to Google Books, videos, blogs and updates, and has launched keyboard shortcuts to navigate through the search results.

Google Instant currently works on the Google homepage and results page, and not in browser search boxes, the Google toolbar, and the Chrome Omnibox.
