Google update allows Google Assistant to broadcast messages via Google Home speakers

Google has issued an update which enables users with Google Assistant to broadcast messages via Google Home speakers, thus helping the latter to double up as an intercom system within one's residence or office.

With the update installed, users can set Assistant on their smartphone to send messages to all Assistant-enabled speakers within their home. For instance, if a user wants to ring in dinner time, the Assistant will ring a dinner bell on every speaker.

The feature which will be rolled out to the US, Australia, Canada, and the UK initially, will work from anywhere with a cell connection, The Verge reported.

In order to activate the feature, a user can say "OK Google, broadcast" followed by the desired announcement. Every speaker synced to the user's account will then broadcast the message.

''When you need to round up the family in the morning, just say 'Ok Google, broadcast it's time for school!' and your message will broadcast to all Google Assistant-enabled speakers in your home,'' Alex Duong, product manager, Google Home, said in a blog post.

The company announced in October that users with Google Assistant will be able to broadcast messages via Google Home devices.

''And if you're just leaving the office, you can let your family know you're coming with a simple 'Ok Google, broadcast I'm on my way home!' to the Assistant on your phone, and it will broadcast to your Google Homes,'' the blog read.

To make the feature work, users will need to sign in with the same Google Account for all devices.
