Gujarat Ambuja Cement receives Asian CSR award 2004

Mumbai: Gujarat Ambuja Cement Ltd. (GACL), the parent company of Ambuja Cement Foundation (ACF) has bagged the Asian 'corporate social responsibility award' (Asian CSR) 2004 for its community work for improving the quality of life for the rural communities. 110 participants from 15 countries participated for the awards.
Gujarat Ambuja won the award in the 'poverty alleviation ' category.The Asian CSR award are Asia's premier awards programme on corporate social responsibility.
ACF's main focus area is water and other natural resource management. It has provided various opportunities for self-employment to women, through self-help groups (SHGs) has also arranged for income generating activities like preparing and packing organic manure, washing soaps and detergents for local consumption, tailoring, collective dairying, etc. ACF is active in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, West Bengal and Chhatisgarh.
Pear Tiwari, general manager (community development), ACF, said, "We at ACF started our operations from grassroot experiments and today a series of innovations have helped us to play the role of advocacy. We are often invited as members on state level committees to impact development. This award will further strengthen our resolve to provide the community with sustainable developmental activities."
