New Delhi: HCL Technologies says it has won a business process outsourcing (BPO) deal worth $160 million from the BT Group, UK’s telecom service provider. The five-year contract is the largest deal ever bagged by any Indian BPO company, HCL Tech officials claim.

“The company will set up an exclusive contract centre for BT, from where its employees will handle part of BT’s business telemarketing, billing and conferencing work,” says HCL Technologies chairman Shiv Nadar. “BT officials will manage the centre, which is to have over 1,000 employees by the end of 2003.”

Adds Sujit Baksi, CEO of both the Indian and Northern Ireland BPO units of HCL Tech: “Currently, ours is the only company in the country that offers a three-way communications resilience between India, the UK and the US through our centres located in the three countries. This, coupled with our range of service offerings, proven calibre and emphasis on investments to develop international standards and facilities, has won us this prestigious order from BT.”

The diverse nature of the assignments will entail a broad profile of professionals, including service executives, high-end data analysis experts and software engineers. BT’s site managers will work with HCL Tech BPO team to ensure adherence to its standards of delivery performance and customer experience.
