HCL Technologies to offer VoIP clients based on Microsoft Windows CE

New Delhi: HCL Technologies (HCLT), among the leading Indian global IT services and product
engineering companies, has announced that it would offer SIP components and solutions on Windows CE for audio / video conferencing, messaging and presence applications on mobile handheld devices. The announcement was made at the2004 Spring Voice-on-the-Net conference being held at Santa Clara, in the US.

This is a key component of HCLT's portfolio of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) products and services for OEMs and semiconductor vendors. These components help to accelerate the deployment of standards-based IP telephony by businesses and service providers.

HCLT specialises in developing VoIP components and applications and has a strong underlying expertise in all major signaling and transport layer protocols. The company has a suite of SIP software components and testing solutions, which it has successfully deployed with OEMs and semiconductor vendors for a range of clients (handhelds, phones and conference stations),
gateways, servers, and access points.

HCLT also has wide practice in networking, embedded software, and wireless systems that enable it to provide product engineering solutions in communications domain.

Reacting to the announcement, Scott Horn, director of the embedded devices group at Microsoft said, "Windows CE provides a robust VoIP solution that adheres to industry standards but is also extensible, enabling device manufacturers to easily and rapidly develop customised devices with a broad set of differentiating applications and services for home and office users that create new revenue opportunities for service operators, while making device management simpler, reducing customer support cost and increasing user satisfaction."

Speaking on the occasion, S Raman, president and chief operating officer, HCL Technologies, said, "This collaboration with Microsoft will help us to quickly align our development with new features supported on Windows CE. He added, "This is also a major step forward in HCLT's commitment to providing software solutions to accelerate SIP-based service deployment".
