Hero Group sets up spacious varsity near Manesar

The Hero Group, mainly known for its two-wheelers, today announced the opening of BML Munjal University, located in Manesar – the locomotive town which is geographically located in Haryana, but commercially a hub of Delhi.

The first batch of students will be admitted in July next year. The university, spread across 500,000 sq ft, will offer BTech, MBA and BBA courses in its first year.

While announcing the commencement of the university, Hero's corporate services chairman Sunil Kant Munjal refused to divulge financial details.

A fully residential university, BMU will commence operations in July 2014. It is named after Hero Group co-founder and chairman Brij Mohan Lall Munjal.

It will offer courses in engineering and management education through its School of Engineering & Technology and School of Management. In subsequent years, the courses will be extended to include liberal arts, law, architecture and design.

"The focus of BML Munjal University would be practical education and fostering employability and a range of life skills among students. The multi-disciplinary, industry oriented course curriculum and innovative pedagogy will promote hands-on and cross-discipline learning," Sunil Kant Munjal said.

Hero MotoCorp managing director and chief executive Pawan Munjal added, "Our aim through this initiative is to nurture ethical leaders with practically oriented knowledge benchmarked with the best global standards to enable them to lead organisations to success."

The new university has tied up with the Imperial College, London for courses in management and engineering. Imperial College will co-design the curriculum, facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes, conduct joint research activities, and establish digital learning platforms.
