HMT to manufacture 75-hp 4-wheel drive tractors

Mumbai: HMT Tractors has developed a 75-horse power four-wheel drive tractor. The 75 HP tractor, ''HMT 7522'' has been developed by HMT''s team of R&D engineers at its Pinjore plant, a company spokesman said.

"HMT has entered the 75-hp four-wheel drive segment with the development of ''HMT 7522'', he said, adding that the four-wheel drive will find application in infrastructure sector development, defence, airports and mines besides agriculture.

The new tractor does not require any additional blasting for generating better traction even in difficult terrains like wet and marshy land or sandy soils. It can also operate at 16-degree slopes.

The four-wheel drive has a higher pulling capacity - 20 per cent more - compared to two-wheel drives as the entire gross weight had been utilised for tractor traction with zero loss, he said. In the new tractor, the traction is achieved on all the wheels through power steering and engagement of front axle drive in high as well as low gears through modifications in the gearbox. In two-wheel drive tractors, the drive force is generated on rear wheels through rear axle load, he said.
