Honda Brio to debut in India in 2011

30 Nov 2010

Honda today unvieled a prototype of its small-sized vehicle Honda Brio at the 27th Thailand International Motor Expo.

The car, which is scheduled to be introduced in Thailand and India in 2011, will be modified for individual markets based on customer needs, the company said.

The Brio will be priced below Rs5 lakh for the Indian market. In the segment, it will be competing against Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Nissan Micra and Hyundai i10.

"Honda would like to expand the joy of mobility to more customers in Thailand, India and other Asian countries through the introduction of a new small vehicle with compact and highly efficient packaging by utilising our own experiences cultivated by motorcycle business here in Asia," said Takanobu Ito, president and CEO of Honda Motor.

The Honda BRIO prototype uses Honda's ''man maximum, machine minimum'' design concept, which basically means minimising the space required for mechanical components.

To accommodate the competitive pricing, Honda said that it will leverage the resources cultivated through its motorcycle business and utilise local sourcing of parts and materials such as sheet steel.

Besides, the Brio will also be exported to other countries from India.
