Honda Cars recalls 1,338 Accord, CR-V

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) is recalling 1,338 units of its sedan Accord and Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) CR-V to replace passenger side air bag inflator.

About 6.09 lakh vehicles have been recalled so far in the country, after Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) initiated voluntary recall policy for safety reasons in July 2012.

HCIL is recalling 1,085 Honda Accord vehicles and 252 units of Honda CR-V manufactured in Year 2003 and a CR-V manufactured in 2002.

HCIL is carrying out the part replacement as part of a global exercise by Honda Motor Company to ensure stringent quality standards for its products. There has been no reporting of any incident related to this part in India, HCIL said in a statement.

The replacement would be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships in a phased manner and the company will communicate with contactable customers directly.

The company's product range includes Honda Brio, Honda Amaze, Honda City and Honda CR-V.

Last month, Honda Motor Co had recalled about 20 lakh vehicles globally over potentially flawed airbag inflators made in 2000-02.

Earlier this month, Mahindra & Mahindra had recalled about 23,000 vehicles of its SUV Scorpio to rectify faulty pressure-regulating valves. The Mumbai-based company said it would carry out preventive inspection of some parts of its Scorpio EX variant manufactured between May 2012 and November 2013.

In December last year, M&M had undertaken a similar exercise on 985 units of Scorpio Ex variant.

In May, Hyundai Motor India recalled 2,437 units of its SUV Santa Fe to replace a faulty stop lamp switch. The voluntarily recall was foor vehicles of model year 2011, with manufacturing period June 26, 2011, to September 26, 2013.

In April, Maruti Suzuki India recalled 1,03,311 units of its Ertiga, Swift and DZire manufactured between 12 November 2013, and 4 February 2014 (See: Maruti seen recalling nearly one lakh Dzire cars).

Earlier, Toyota Kirloskar Motor recalled 44,989 vehicles of its multi-purpose vehicle Innova, while the biggest recall of 1.14 lakh vehicle is credited to General Motors India. General Motors had recalled Tavera manufactured between 2005 and 2013.
