Honda's next generation car for India

25 Feb 2008

Honda Motor Company, the Japanese automaker is all set to work on a next generation car for India. The company will also be constructing its second automobile plant in the country.

The company has clarified theat its new model would not be in line with Tata Nano or any other similar model. Honda has also confirmed that 660cc engine cars (used in the Nano) are not an option for the company. Masahiro Takedagawa, president & CEO, Honda Siel Cars, India, said, "We don't like 660cc engine cars. They are too small, we don't consider them cars."

Honda would make use of few elements from its earlier models sold in the western market. To minimise the manufacturing costs, it might use the existing platforms to develop the model.

The Honda eight-generation Accord and Honda Civic Hybrid is also scheduled to launch in India this year.
