HP launches Oracle-integrated software

19 Aug 1999

Hewlett Packard has launched its ''e-speak'' software, integrated with the database product, Oracle 8i. This follows its new e-services strategy, acknowledging its delay in recognising the opportunity on the Internet.

''e-speak'' allows websites to communicate with one another. Combined with Oracle''s internet based database application, Oracle 8i, it will be an important tool in e-business and services.

HP and Oracle have entered into an agreement whereby the two companies will invest a few million dollars over the next few years at their headquarters at Palo Alto, California and Redwood Shores, California respectively. Besides, the two companies are planning to open ''expert centres'' on a global scale to help ISPs, application service providers and internet companies to develop services based on ''e-speak''.
