Hyundai Kona Electric to launch India’s first long-range EV tomorrow

Hyundai Kona Electric will launch the all electric and powerful SUV, KONA Electric, which is also India’s first long-range electric vehicle (EV) with a claimed range of 452km per charge.

“Its power packed performance provides a thrilling driving experience with high acceleration over long distances. KONA Electric is here to change the way people think about going electric,” Kona Electric stated in a release.

The Hyundai Kona Electric, priced at around Rs25  lakh, will be sold in 16 major Indian cities initially. Select Hyundai dealerships will offer DC fast charging facility.
Select dealerships in cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru will get the fast charging apparatus which is likely to be a 100kW DC charging unit that can juice up the Kona Electric to 80 per cent in just 54 minutes.
For personal usage, Hyundai will provide an optional wall box/ AC charging station which takes around 10 hours for a full battery top up. There won’t be any fast chargers for personal usage as they are bound to shoot up the EV’s prices.
The KONA Electric should get features like LED projector headlamps, head-up display, ventilated seats, 8-inch touchscreen with 8-speaker audio system.
Its ex-showroom price could go down by 7 per cent if GST reduction rule is implemented.
Available globally with a 39kWh and 64kWh battery pack, India will get the latter, making the Kona Electric the first long-range EV in India. Hyundai has already dispatched 25 units of the Kona to dealerships last month
The Hyundai Kona Electric, with its 64kWh battery pack, returns a claimed range of around 452km on a single charge, according to ARAI. Its 150kW electric motor delivers 204PS with 395Nm of peak torque which allows it to reach 100kmph from a standstill in 7.6 seconds on the way to a top speed of 167kmph. 
The Hyundai Kona Electric should get LED projector headlamps with DRLs, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer, head-up display, ventilated seats and wireless charging. Safety features should include six airbags, blind spot monitoring system, rearview parking camera, ABS with EBD and more.
