IBM introduces low priced entry level servers

Mumbai: IBM has announced the launch of the industry''s lowest priced entry-level storage servers, IBM TotalStorage DS300 and DS400, priced around Rs300,000 for small and midsize businesses. The new disk server will be the first to use industry standard connectivity in an easy to install design, providing customers significant cost savings over comparable systems. Additionally, these servers offer more performance and reliability features, including new advanced business recovery technology to the customers.

IBM is offering iSCSI technology - or "IP Storage" on the DS300, for mid sized businesses to have a flexible option to connect their storage using the standard Ethernet infrastructure and move data from servers to storage.

IBM has also announced the expansion of IBM disk portfolio and the unification of the portfolio under the IBM TotalStorage DS Family, the most extensive disk family portfolio available with a single vendor.

As a key part of the TotalStorage DS Family, the FAStT products are being renamed the TotalStorage DS4000 series. With enhancements to the TotalStorage DS4000 Storage Manager V9.1 (formerly FAStT Storage Manager), the DS 4000 series can provide midsized enterprises new business continuity and advanced management capabilities.
