IBM sues Amazon

23 Oct 2006

IBM Corp today filed two lawsuits in two U.S. District Courts in Texas against Amazon.com Inc. for alleged patent-infringement. Big Blue claims the popular online retailer has violated at least five of its patents over several years.

IBM says that Amazon has violated its patents for technology used to store data in an interactive network, presenting advertising in an interactive service and ordering items using an electronic catalogue, among others.

According to IBM the suits date back to September 2002, when it informed Amazon of the infringements. However, IBM said that Amazon had shown no inclination to settle the issue.

The suits were filed in the Eastern District of Texas.
