04 Jan 2014

Technology bellwether Infosys Technologies on Friday announced the appointment of B G Srinivas and U B Pravin Rao as presidents of the company with immediate effect.

The two will report to chief executive officer and managing director S D Shibulal, Infosys said in a release.

Infosys, a global leader in consulting, technology and outsourcing solutions, also announced a realignment of its business portfolios under the two presidents.

Srinivas will focus on global markets while Pravin Rao will focus on global delivery and service innovation.

Accordingly, Srinivas will handle portfolios such as financial services, insurance, manufacturing, engineering services, energy and communications, Infosys public services, Infosys Lodestone, strategic global sourcing, marketing and alliances.

Pravin Rao will look after retail, consumer packaged goods and logistics, life sciences, resources and utilities, services, growth markets, cloud and mobility, quality and productivity and Infosys Leadership Institute.

Following the realignment of portfolios, the 30-member executive council, as a forum, will cease to exist with effect from 1 April 2014, Infosys said.

''These changes will further enhance our focus on deepening client relationships, increasing market share, creating service differentiation through innovation and agility in execution,'' chief executive and managing director S D Shibulal said.

The appointments come two weeks after the departure of three senior executives at Infosys, including V Balakrishnan, who was an ex-board member, head of Infy BPO and head of Lodestone, also see the elimination of the 30-member executive council, which will cease to exist from April 1, 2014.

Last week Infosys declared its third quarter results.

On Friday, Infosys management announced the elevation of board members, BG Srinivas and UB Pravin Rao as presidents of the company - a newly created role at Infy – who would be reporting to current chief executive officer and managing director, SD Shibulal.

BG Srinivas is rumoured to be the hot favourite in the running for the next CEO, after the departure of Balakrishnan and Ashok Vemuri.

The changes are aimed at centralising the highly decentralised Infy, and to test the prowess of Srinivas and Rao to see if they have CEO capability, after Shibulal retires in 2015. Shibulal is the last of the founders to retire, and his exit would see the appointment of the first non-founder CEO of the company.
