Infosys investing $176 million in training hub; gives away Rs126 crore to employees

Mumbai: Information technology bellwether Infosys Technologies is investing Rs809 crore ($176 million) to expand its global education centre in Mysore. Infosys' central training facility will add 9,000 seats, taking its annual capacity to 13,500 trainees over the next one year, a company official said.

Infosys is adding 7,750 hostel rooms at its global training facility, making it a total of 10,000 rooms. "When fully completed it will house five food courts, one employee care centre, one multimedia centre making it undoubtedly the largest training facility in the world," the official said.

Infosys chairman and chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy also announced a Rs126-crore award to the company's 58,000 employees as a silver jubilee bonanza. "I would like to announce that the trustees of Infosys Employees Welfare Trust, an independent body, has decided and communicated to us that it will distribute a part of the corpus of the trust amount — Rs126 crore — to all of its beneficiaries, so that the employees of Infosys commemorate the silver jubilee celebrations of the company," he told the gathering at the company's silver jubilee celebrations.

"The trustees have also decided that each of the beneficiaries will get a certain amount, depending on the tenure in the company. The exact details will be communicated by the trustees separately to all the beneficiaries," he said

But he hastened to add, "We have bigger challenges and rewards ahead of us. I will not be there when all of these are achieved. But I know that we have a wonderful set of people led by Nandan, Kris and others. We all have to remember one thing, and that is: aspirations, courage, principles and innovation and relentless focus on execution will carry you all to that great success you want to achieve."

The Mysore campus, spread over 335 acres, with a built-up area of three million square feet, is building another 3.2 million square feet. Infosys, meanwhile, opened its fourth software development centre. The new 2,500-seat block, set up at an investment of Rs85 crore ($18.5 million), was inaugurated by Montek Singh Ahluwalia, deputy chairman of the Planning Commission.
