Kochi: Infosys Technologies has decided to make a foray into Kerala with a major investment in IT software.

The decision was conveyed by Infosys chief mentor N R Narayanamurthy to a high-level Kerala delegation led by Chief Minister A K Antony, Industry Minister P K Kunhalikutty and Finance Minister K Sankaranarayanan who visited Bangalore recently.

The announcement has come as a morale booster to the state, which has been leaving no stone unturned in its search for a breakthrough in industrial development. The Infosys decision, ahead of the 18 January 2003 Global Investors Meet, has set the mood for the event on which the Kerala government has placed a lot of stakes.

According to sources, the IT major has indicated that it is keen on setting up its own establishment spread over more than 20 acres of land either in Thiruvananthapuram or Kochi. Antony assured the Infosys authorities that the state government will extend all support to its project.

The chief minister gave an account of the steps his government has taken to promote industrial development, including a legislation to curb labour militancy.

One of the major points he emphasised was the political consensus in the state with regard to industrial development. Antony also highlighted the peaceful industrial relations that existed in Technopark, Kerala’s premier electronics software park, ever since its inception.
