IRCTC to launch its own payment gateway

31 Mar 2018

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC), the user-friendly, public face of Indian Railways, will be launching its own payment gateway in a bid to earn additional revenues.

A report in business daily Livemint said the pilot for its in-house payment gateway is expected to be launched over the next month or two. Dubbed ‘ipay,’ it will be rolled out in phases after successful testing.
IRCTC, the largest consumer internet firm by revenue, sells 1.2 million tickets a month. Currently, the corporation’s ticket booking transactions are powered by companies including Paytm, Mobikwik and Razorpay through their gateways.
The corporation is looking at other opportunities in the railway network to expand its revenues and cater to the growing needs of customers.
On Friday, for instance, it introduced the country’s first saloon coach with air-conditioned rooms, attached bathrooms and valet services (See: Railways lets public charter-hire luxury luxury saloons).
