ITC paper division ropes in corporate majors for 'waste-to-wealth' initiative

18 Oct 2011

The paperboards and speciality papers division of diversified group ITC Ltd today announced a new `waste-to-wealth' (WoW) initiative, teaming up with other corporate majors such as Infosys, Google, Mahindra Satyam and Dr Reddy's Laboratories.

Under the plan, 20 major business groups with over 200,000 employees, including Infosys, Microsoft, Google, Mahindra Satyam and Dr Reddy's Labs, will join the WOW initiative where waste paper is segregated and collected.

ITC would collect the segregated paper, which would be better suited for recycling, Sanjay Singh, chief executive of ITC's PSPD, said.

He said ITC is already collecting 4,000 tonnes of dry waste every month and that this could reach 6,000 tonnes a month during the current financial year.

ITC expects to raise about 15,000 tonnes of paper waste each month, enough to run a paper mill.

ITC Ltd has also reoriented its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities as part of its overall business plan, Singh said.
