J&J adds several popular brands to Tylenol recall lots

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) on Friday said it would add several popular brands such as Benadryl, Motrin, and Rolaids to the lots of its pain reliever Tylenol it decided to recall on reports of specific lots of the product smelling 'musty'.
Some users have also complained of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea though no serious medical reactions have been reported.
The products were marketed by McNeil Consumer Healthcare division and many of these originated from a plant in Puerto Rico.
The latest recall includes certain lots and formulations of the following medications: Junior Strength Motrin IB, Children's Tylenol Meltaways, Benadryl, Extra Strength Tylenol, Extra Strength Tylenol Rapid Release, Motrin IB, Regular Strength Tylenol, Rolaids, Simply Sleep, St Joseph Aspirin, Tylenol Arthritis, and Tylenol PM.
Similar complaints in December had led J&J to recall lots of its extensively-used pain reliever Tylenol. At the time the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the cause of the problem was the breakdown of a certain chemical applied to the wooden pallets used to ship the product.
J&J on Friday said it had expanded the recall to include lots that may have been affected, even in the absence of consumer complaints over them. It added that the use of wooden pallets treated with the chemical 2,4,6- tribromoanisole, also known as TBA, believed to be the cause of the problem had also been discontinued.
