Jaguar Land Rover to create 1,100 new jobs

Tata Motors-owned British luxury car maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is creating 1,100 new jobs in the UK to support the manufacturing of new cars, including the sleek Jaguar XF Sportbrake estate car at its Castle Bromwich plant in the West Midlands.

The new models are part of the carmakers plan to introduce 40 new vehicles over the next five years, after launching the new XF Sportbrake later this year and the new XF and XJ ranges in 2013.

Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of JLR, said, ''These new models will attract new customers to the brand as we look to expand our global reach and further enhance our position in the market.''

''Innovation in design, engineering and technology is at the core of our business and for the UK, this means we will continue to invest in new products, develop new technologies and enhance the skills of our employees.''

Prime Minister David Cameron's government has welcomed JLR's decision. In 2008, the Labour goverment under Gordon Brown 2008 had refused to bail out JLR and other car manufacturers during the height of the global economic downturn.

"This expansion is a clear demonstration of Jaguar Land Rover's continuing commitment and investment in the UK," said business secretary Vince Cable.
