Jet Airways mulls cargo services

30 Oct 2007

Chennai: Jet Airways is looking at different horizons, and may well start a cargo airline next year, the company''s chairman Naresh Goyal told journalists here. He noted that with India''s cross-border trade growing, in particular the growing links with China, there was a need for air cargo services.

Jet is also considering setting up a maintenance-repair-overhaul (MRO) centre and is eyeing three cities as likely candidates for the project. Amongst Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, Goyal said that Chennai was the more likely choice. In addition to the MRO, Jet would also set up an academy for training pilots and crew.

Goyal was in the city in connection with the launch of the Chennai-Brussels-Newark and Chennai-Brussels-Toronto flights. For these routes, Jet will use a new Airbus 330-200 aircraft, which will carry passengers in 2-class layout.
