JNPT reports highest ever container traffic of 4.48 mn TEUs in 2015

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has handled 4.48 million TEUs of container traffic during the calendar year 2015 compared to 4.47 million TEUs handled during the previous year 2014, posting a growth of 0.10 per cent.

This is the highest ever container traffic handled in a calendar year since the inception of JNPT.

Out of the total container traffic of 4.48 million TEUs, the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Container Terminal (JNPCT) had a share of 1.37 million TEUs, which is 30.63 per cent of the total container traffic at the port; Nhava Sheva International Container Terminal Pvt Ltd (NSICT) had a share of 1.09 million TEUs, which is 24.37 per cent of the total container traffic while NSIGT had a share of 0.11 million TEUs (2.36 per cent) and the APM Terminals, Mumbai (APMT/GTICT) handled the remaining 1.91 million TEUs (42.64 per cent).

JNPCT, the port-owned and operated container terminal, handled 1.37 million TEUs (17.25 million tonnes) and recorded a growth of 3.60 per cent in terms of TEUs and 4.65 per cent in terms of tonnes.

JNPCT has handled the highest ever container traffic of 1.37 million TEUs in the calendar year 2015 since the inception of the port, surpassing the previous record of 1.35 million TEUs in the year 2006.
