JP Mobile to continue to support all major handheld devices

By Our Corporate Bureau | 23 Oct 2003

Mumbai: JP Mobile, a leading provider of enterprise mobility software, recently announced at Gartner ITxpo that its SureWave Enterprise Server will support the new Handspring Treo 600 series smartphones, in addition to a rapidly growing list of devices on other major device platforms.

Hence business customers will be able to securely access corporate data and also automatically receive new email messages and calendar items on their Handspring Treo 600 Smartphone with SureWave with no user intervention.

SureWave Enterprise Server is also fully integrated with and optimised for the Treo 600 series smartphone and takes advantage of the native Palm OS applications. Customers can continue to use the device's familiar applications, without learning new ones, to access their Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino corporate email server.

SureWave has also been optimised to take advantage of the five-way navigation button for single-hand operation without the need of a stylus. The smart text engine allows email messages to contain embedded links of email addresses, URLs or telephone numbers so users can address a new e-mail message, go directly to a URL or make a telephone call directly from the e-mail message.

Mobile users can also view attachments on the Treo 600 using DataViz Documents to Go software. Finally, loading the SureWave client is a single-click process and can be accomplished from the user's Web-based interface.

The mobility infrastructure provided by SureWave uses standard Java Enterprise Edition (J2EE) technology and is SyncML-based. Sitting behind the corporate firewall, the user data is completely secure at all times and is never exposed to outside parties. In addition, SureWave provides IT management with secure Web-based access for administration, and the primary administrator can now reduce the administrative effort by adding multiple secondary administrative accounts for help desk personnel to access SureWave as well as add/ delete or monitor users. Hardware and software inventory is also provided to assist with asset tracking.

"We are seeing high demand for the Handspring Treo 600 series from our enterprise customers due to the device's design and size, as well as Handspring's reputation for making excellent converged products," says Kevin Byrd, vice-president of marketing at JP Mobile. "JP Mobile has quickly and easily added support for the Treo 600 in SureWave. A customer needs only to load the new SureWave client on the Treo 600 with a single-click from the SureWave Web interface and begin securely accessing corporate data."

"With SureWave, JP Mobile is offering Treo 600 customers an enterprise-class wireless email and data solution," says Calin Pacurariu, director of product marketing and developer solutions for Handspring. "We are delighted to see our partners, such as JP Mobile, optimise their solutions for the Treo 600's unique hardware and software features to deliver an even more powerful business solution."

Treo 600 is a small, simple-to-use smartphone with a built-in Qwerty keyboard. It seamlessly combines a full-featured mobile phone and Palm OS organiser with wireless communication applications like email, messaging and Web browsing, and even a digital camera — to simplify both your business and personal life.

The keyboard, five-way navigation button and other design features make it possible for you to get more done — in fewer steps, with just one hand, and without having to swap back and forth between applications. With all these features it remains lightweight, stylish and small enough to fit into the pocket.

JP Mobile is a leading software provider that securely extends and manages corporate data on handheld devices. Fortune 1000 companies in healthcare, financial services, legal, energy and utilities, manufacturing, government, real estate and other industries have deployed the SureWave technology.
