Mumbai: Kale Consultants, the aviation and banking software major, has recorded a sharp growth of 29 per cent in its profit after tax (PAT) for the quarter ended September 2002.

The PAT for the quarter stood at Rs 4.31 million, as against Rs 3.35 million recorded in the second quarter of the last financial year. The company achieved Rs 121.24 million of net sales, registering a growth of 7.8 per cent over the corresponding period of the last financial year.

The profit before interest, depreciation and tax (PBIDT) increased by 15.5 per cent to Rs 25.33 million in the second quarter of the current fiscal, compared to Rs 21.92 million in the second quarter of the last fiscal.

For the first half year of the current fiscal, the company recorded a growth of 7.3 per cent in net sales at Rs 233.75 million. The total income increased from Rs 224.38 million in the first half of the last year to Rs 240.13 million in the current year. It posted a PAT of Rs 5.54 million against a net loss of Rs 5.33 million incurred in the first half of the previous fiscal.

Kale’s airline division continues to do well, registering a 17.9-per cent growth during the quarter. The growing business process outsourcing (BPO) business was the key contributor to this growth. BPO revenues at Rs 35.85 million during the quarter witnessed a quantum jump of 144 per cent on a year-on-year basis.

The geographical break-up of revenues also shows a well-diversified picture, with 27 per cent of revenues coming from the Asia Pacific region, 28 per cent coming from the Middle-East and Africa, 27 per cent from India, 14 per cent from Europe, and 4 per cent from the US. While this mix may change from year to year, the regional diversity of the company’s revenue sources makes it less vulnerable to region-specific risks and threats.

Says Kale managing director Vipul Jain: “The Intellectual Property Rights-led BPO business is growing at a faster pace. The changing sales composition and controlled expenses are driving the profitability of operations. We expect to meet our revenue and profit guidance for the year.”

Leveraging three strategically located development centres in India, Kale Consultants is a global organisation with over 600 professionals, six international offices and customers in more than 20 countries across the world.
