KG-D6 gas reserves down further

01 Nov 2012

Niko Resources, Reliance Industries partner in the D6 block in the Krishna-Godaveri basin off India's east coast, estimates that total proved plus probable reserves at the block had decreased to 1.93 trillion cubic feet as of 31 March 2012.

Output at the D1 and D3 fields in the KG-D6 block has dropped to 26 million metric standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) from 60 mmscmd in 2010.

Production at the block is now projected to fall further to 20 mmscmd in 2014-15. The block has never managed to reach the forecast peak flow of 80 mmscmd, Niko said.

Meanwhile a government report said Reliance Industries Ltd has cut the gas reserves in its D6 block to 3.4 trillion cubic feet from the 10.3 tcf estimated in December 2006.

Niko owns 10 per cent of the block, while Reliance Industries Ltd holds 60 per cent and BP the remaining 30 per cent.

Reliance and BP are the operators of the block.
