Kirloskar Brothers targets over $1-billion turnover by 2011

In line with with its plans to emerge among the top five global water management solutions providers with a turnover in excess of $1 billion by 2011, India's largest pump manufacturer, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, has reorganised its business in to nine business sectors, dealing in products, services and systems.

The verticals are:

  • Irrigation and rural electrification to undertake all major and minor irrigation and rural electrification works
  • Water resource management including water supply and treatment, sewage treatment and sewage pumping stations, desalination plants
  • Oil and gas for refinery, petrochemicals, fertilisers, oil and gas exploration and transportation
  • Distribution
  • Power
  • Industry
  • Building and construction
  • Marine and defence
  • After sales services

"The objective of the change is to ensure that each sector is served at the highest level of operational efficiency and to enable KBL to provide best customer service," said R K Srivastava, whole time director, KBL. "All these nine sectors shall operate as profit centres, independently looking after sales, marketing and execution and financial recovery, etc."

In addition, following corporate functions have been newly formed and will come in to operate as:

  • Corporate global sourcing: focusing on sourcing, procurement of capital equipment, pricing, planning, and vendor evaluation, for procurement of commodities at global level, common for all manufacturing and all imports
  • Corporate business development and strategy, responsible for mergers and acquisitions, new business initiatives, brand building and promotional activities
  • Corporate international division, renamed as corporate global marketing,  is responsible for market intelligence - domestic and international, developing business.

Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) is the largest pump manufacturer and turnkey contractor in India with a consolidated turnover of over Rs2,000 crore  and rated among the top 15 global pump manufacturers.

It is the first Indian company to launch FM approved and UL listed fire fighting pumps and to have received a US patent for novel energy saving concept in pumping. This year, the company has acquired Gondwana Engineers, a company that specialises in water and wastewater treatment and Kolhapur Steel, a mini steel plant with a production capacity of 500 MT per month. KBL has also acquired Chennai based Construction Company named Aban Construction Limited now known as Kirloskar Construction & Engineers Ltd. These acquisitions are a step towards company's objective of becoming a complete water management solution provider company.
