Kolkata: The three public sector banks with Kolkata as headquarters, UCO Bank, United Bank of India and Allahabad Bank, are on a recruitment drive, mostly officers.

UCO Bank has almost finalised the selection procedures with the help of the Mumbai-based Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and the recruitment will take place shortly.
A total of 250 MBAs, IT professionals, chartered accountants, lawyers, Hindi officers and security personnel are to be selected as scale I officers in the current year itself.

This is the first batch of a total of 750 specialist officers the bank proposes to recruit by 2005-06 at the rate of 250 every year, starting from 2003-04. Right now, the bank has a total of 6,697 officers.

United Bank has just had its manpower plan approved by its board of directors. Plans are afoot to recruit 175 officers, 75 specialists and 100 probationary officers (POs) as early as possible, preferably before March 31, 2004. The second batch of 175 officers, 75 specialists and 100 POs, are proposed to be recruited next year and another batch of 150 — 50 specialists and 100 POs in the year after that. The bank has no immediate plans to recruit people in the clerical cadre, but may recruit 50 next year.

Allahabad Bank's plan presupposes recruitment of probationary officers as well as specialists. The number of POs will be 360 and of specialists about 120 — in scale I and II. "We have already initiated the process and IPRS will help the bank conduct the recruitment procedures," said a spokesman for the bank, adding that the entire recruitment, to be completed in one go, might not over within the current fiscal.
