L&T - Outotec GmbH consortium bags Rs762-crore sinter plant order from Steel Authority of India

The ECC Division of engineering major Larsen & Toubro, in consortium with Germany''s Outotec GmbH, has bagged a Rs762-crore sinter plant order, from the Steel Authority Of India Ltd (SAIL).

The plant of 2 X 204 square metre grate area with a capacity of 3.80 million ton per annum will be executed on a turnkey basis, at SAIL''s IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) at Burnpur, West Bengal.

The order value for L&T is Rs639.99 crore and €22.08 million for Outotec.

The new sinter plant is part of SAIL''s ambitious programme of expanding ISP''s crude steel capacity by 2.5 million tonnes per annum. The project is scheduled for completion in under 30 months.

Outotec''s scope covers basic engineering, supply of proprietary and special equipment as well as technical services while L&T''s scope covers detailed engineering, supply of indigenous mechanical, electrical and instrumentation works and complete site services including civil, structural and erection works.

L&T''s ECC Division along with Outotec is already executing a 2.3-million ton per annum sinter plant on turnkey basis at Tata Steel, Jamshedpur, which is nearing completion. This consortium has also received an order, from Tata Steel, for a 5.75- million ton per annum sinter plant for the new Kalinganagar, Orissa unit.
