L&T wins NTPC contract among four orders in Andhra Pradesh

Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) has announced having bagged four contracts valued at Rs452 crore for projects in Andhra Pradesh, including one valued at Rs226 crore from NTPC for Simhadri Coal Handling Plant.

This project in an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the design, engineering, supply and installation of 2 x l600 TPH coal handling plant, for Simhadri super thermal power project (SEPP), stage-II (2x500 MW), including civil, structural, electrical and instrumentation works. This involves construction of 7 km of belt conveyors, supplying two stacker reclaimers, 4 crushers, and 4 paddle feeders including associated electromechanical equipment..

This project is being executed as a part of NTPC''s expansion plan for the Simhadri. STPP, and will enhance the plant''s installed capacity from 1000 MW to 2000 MW, by adding two units of 500 MW each.

L&T''s construction division, which won the contract, expects to complete the project in 39 months.

Incidentally, L&T had constructed the coal handling plant during the stage-1 of the project, which was put in to operation in 2002.

The other three contracts, with a combined value of Rs226 crore are from the Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department, of the government of Andhra Pradesh, including a Rs93 crore order for engineering, procurement and construction of an underground drainage scheme for Nizamabad township.

The project involves laying 470km of sewer pipelines, sewage treatment plant and pumping system, to be completed in 24 months. This project would benefit Nizamabad residents besides disposal of sewage in an environmentally safe manner.

IT also has another order of Rs88 crore for engineering, procurement and construction of water supply improvement scheme to Nellore Town, involving construction of water treatment plant, reservoirs, pumping stations and laying 88 km of pipelines, with a project completion schedule of 18 months.

It ia also putting up a Rs45-crore order to provide safe drinking water to Rayadurg in Ananthapur District of Andhra Pradesh town involving construction of water treatment plant, reservoirs, pumping stations, supply and laying of 27 km pipelines on EPC basis with a project completion schedule of 15 months.
