In a separate statement, the company said it had won a Rs700 crore refinery order from HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd, a joint venture of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd and Mittal Energy Investments.

L&T bagged three major orders aggregating to Rs937 crore during September and October 2008 in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, the company said in a release.

The contracts included an EPC water supply project of the value Rs582 crore from Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) under the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project Phase-I and two EPC projects from Delhi Jal Board valued at Rs355 crore.

The Hyderabad project involves construction of trunk mains of MS pipe for 58 km to bring 735 million litres per day (MLD) treated water to Hyderabad city. The contract period is of 24 months.

The Delhi project envisages design, providing, laying, jointing, testing and commissioning of MS twin-pipeline from Bawana to Dwaraka (Package 1A) and design and construction of 20 million gallons per day (MGD) water treatment plant (WTP) at Okhla. This WTP will have clarifloculator, flash mixer, filters, pre-sedimentation tanks as major units along with the intake system. Both projects are to be completed in 21 months, L&T said in the release.

The fourth is a Rs700 crore contract from HPCL –Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL), a joint venture of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Mittal Energy Investments, involving the setting up two 44,000 TPA capacity hydrogen generation units (HGU) for HMEL's grassroots refinery in Bathinda, Punjab. The plant will be designed for operation with 'straight run naphtha' and DHDT naphtha as feed stock. The 9 million tonnes per year refinery will generate products that meet Euro IV specifications.

The order for the HGU has been awarded to L&T on a lumpsum turnkey basis.  Denmark-based Haldor Topsoe has been selected by HMEL as the process licensor.

L&T's scope of work includes residual process design, detailed engineering, procurement, supply, transportation, storage, fabrication, inspection, construction, installation, testing, mechanical completion, pre-commissioning and commissioning.

The order was bagged by the chemical plants business unit of L&T's Engineering & Construction Division against competition from global EPC contractors, the release noted.

L&T, India's largest technology, engineering and construction company, has executed critical sections of several refineries in India, Southeast Asia and the Gulf on a complete Engineering-Procurement-Construction basis. Recently, L&T completed a lube base oil project in Malaysia.
