L&T metallurgical, material handling and water units secure orders worth Rs1,126 crore

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) today said the metallurgical, material handling and water operating units of its construction division have secured orders aggregating Rs1,126 crore from various customers, including Sterlite Industries, Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Delhi Jal Board and Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam Limited.

L&T said its metallurgical unit secured an order valued at Rs300 crore from Vedanta group company Sterlite Industries India Limited for the construction of 400,000 TPA copper smelter plant at Tuticorin, in Tamil Nadu.

The scope of the contract involves design, engineering, supply, erection, civil and structural work for the smelter and refinery areas. The project is to be executed in 15 months.

L&T also secured orders worth Rs210 crore from Hindalco Industries Limited for setting up pot superstructure and auxiliary facilities for their aluminium smelter and refinery project. The contract involves fabrication of pot superstructures and flash vessels. The project is to be executed in 21 months.

Tata Steel has awarded L&T an order worth Rs100 crore for the installation of PCI units at Jamshedpur. The contract involves design, engineering, supply, erection, civil and structural work for grinding and drying system for pulverised coal injection in "H" and "I" blast furnaces. The project is to be executed in 24 months.

L&T also received a Rs182 crore order from Tata Steel Limited for supply of raw material handling system Package-II at Jamshedpur for sinter, coke, and coal, including wagon tippler, side arm charger, stacker reclaimer on EPC basis. The project is scheduled for completion in November 2011.

In addition, L&T secured an order worth Rs231 crore from UP Jal Nigam Limited for design and execution of storm water drainage system in the city of Varanasi. The scope of work includes provision of RCC pipes and open drains of about 80 km, construction of water receiving bodies, including rainwater harvesting and rehabilitation works. The contract period is 18 months.

Delhi Jal Board has placed an EPC order for Rs103 crore for supplying 120 million gallons per day (MGD) water from Wazirabad Water Works to Chandrawal Water Works through twin raw water main of 1900 mm / 1800 mm diameter MS pipes, including upgradation of raw water pumping station and ancillary works. The project is to be executed in 14 months.
