L&T to convert National Fertilisers' ammonia feedstock plant to natural gas

Engineering and construction major, Larsen & Toubro today said it has bagged two orders worth Rs2,155 crore from National Fertilisers Ltd (NFL) for conversion of feedstock of ammonia plant to natural gas.

The contracts from NFL are for projects at Panipat (Haryana) and Bhatinda (Punjab), the company told the Bombay Stock Exchange in a filing.

The projects involve feedstock changeover of the existing 900 tonnes per day (TPD) ammonia plant from fuel oil to natural gas and includes process licence, engineering and construction of the plants, according to the company.

Both projects are to be executed concurrently and slated to be commissioned by end-January 2013.

NFL, is a leading nitrogenous fertilisers producer and has an installed capacity of about 3.3 million tonnes of urea and various other industrial products, the company said in the filing.

The projects will be executed using the renowned synthesis gas technology of Haldor Topsoe, Denmark according to the company. L&T earlier secured a similar feedstock project and with the latest orders the company now has three feedstock conversion projects in the fertiliser sector on hand according to the company.
