L&T to help PM’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ with 5,000 toilets

In an important corporate social responsibility initiative, engineering and infrastructure conglomerate Larsen & Toubro will build 5,000 toilets across the country, the company announced on Sunday.

"Group executive chairman A M Naik, announced a major CSR initiative that would add traction to the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' programme recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Independence Day," L&T said in a statement.

"The objectives of L&T's ongoing CSR programme were aligned to the mission of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'," the statement added.

L&T said the company through the L&T Public Charitable Trust was committed to building India's social infrastructure.

The investments will cover water supply and distribution, sanitation, healthcare and skill training institutes.

The company would build 2,000 toilets initially and progressively scale it up to 5,000.
