L&T to set up Rs6,500-crore power plant for Jaiprakash group

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro has secured a Rs6,500-crore mega power plant order from the Jaiprakash Group, the second order from the group.

Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL), a Jaiprakash Group Power Company, has placed the order for its 3x660 MW power plant being set up in Uttar Pradesh.

The 1980 MW power project, based on the environment-friendly supercritical technology, will be located in Karchana district, 40 km from Allahabad.

The work involves supply, erection and commissioning of boiler-turbine generator package, critical piping, electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), and power plant automation, L&T said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

The first unit of the plant is scheduled to go into commercial production in 48 months and full commissioning will be in 60 months, L&T said.

L&T-MHI Boilers Pvt Ltd will undertake the work of the boiler island while L&T itself will undertake the work comprising steam turbine generator island, ESPs, critical piping and power plant automation system.
