L&T wins Rs1,610-crore order for Visa Power's 1200 MW power plant

Engineering and construction major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a Rs1,610-crore order from Visa Power Ltd (VPL) for construction of their 2x600 MW power plant, being set up in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.

Under the contract, L&T will undertake construction of the project on a Balance of Plant (BoP) package, to be executed on EPC basis. L&T will design, engineer, supply, erect and commission all remaining works of the plant and also provide associated services.

The scope of work includes civil, structural and architectural works, including construction of coal and ash handling plants, chimney, induced draft cooling towers, switchyard and BOP electrical, ash pond and water reservoir etc.

The project is to be commissioned within 29 - 32 months, L&T said, adding that the project was won through international competitive bidding involving several domestic bidders as well.

L&T had, last month, received a order for Rs6,500 crore from Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL) for 3x660 MW supercritical boiler-steam turbine generator package for its Karchana power project.

L&T has the necessary strengths in design, engineering, execution and construction, quality and safety standards assurance and on-time delivery of power projects.
