Land Rover to launch new version of Defender SUV in 2015

02 Sep 2011

Tata-owned Land Rover said today it will release a new version of its sports utility vehicle, Defender, in 2015 and its public debut will be made at next month's Frankfurt motor.

Land Rover  has released the first images of the concept car, the DC100, upon which the new Defender will be based.

"The Land Rover Defender Concept 100, a modern interpretation of the iconic Land Rover Defender, will make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show," the British marquee said in a statement.

The current Defender was first launched in 1948 and has touched sales of more than two million around the world.

Defender basic design has changed little over the past six decades but Land Rover claims that its next model will be a rugged workhorse.

Commenting on the concept vehicle, Land Rover's director of design Gerry McGovern said, "This isn't a production-ready concept, but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."
