Lenovo, EMC form strategic alliance

02 Aug 2012

The world's second-largest PC maker Lenovo Group Ltd has entered into a strategic tie-up with leading US enterprise storage firm EMC Corp to boost the sale of storage devices and servers.

The partnership will increase Lenovo's position in industry standard servers and networked storage solutions while EMC will significantly expand its footprint particularly in China and other high-growth markets, a joint statement said.

Financial terms of the tie-up have not been disclosed.

Initially, Lenovo and EMC will work together to enhance the capabilities of Lenovo's x86 servers. These will be marketed by Lenovo and later embedded into EMC's storage systems.

As part of the deal, Lenovo will sell EMC's storage devices to its customers, beginning with China and further expanding to other global markets.

Besides, the companies plan to form a new joint venture by bringing in EMC's Iomega assets and resources to provide network attached storage systems targeted towards small and medium businesses.
