Plasma TV - PG61Mumbai: LG Electronics has announced its plans to launch the world's first frameless Plasma TV - PG61. The announcement follows the company's other announcement to launch five new models in the Plasma category.

The Korean electronics giant has set an ambitious target of a 30-per cent market share in the flat panel segment (FPD)  segment by the end of 2008 with the aggressive market launches.

The new plasma resembles a seamless black sheet of glass, which is a unique combination of frameless design, enhanced audio performance and amazing viewing experience. The bezel-less plasma TV has been awarded the 'best of innovations award' at the 2008 CES Consumer Electronics Show.

LG says numerous consumer surveys showed that consumers wanted to see something more than just a conventional plain black TV. This is where the concept of the PG61 came into existence, and LG began to develop its ultra-minimalist, screen-only plasma TV, which literally takes TV viewing to the edge.

The PG61 is the first plasma in the market to incorporate single-layer technology, completely eliminating the usual screen border. LG says the invisible speakers have been specially tuned by audio expert Mark Levinson, providing viewers with amazingly crisp, rich sound quality. The enhanced sound quality is combined by its sleek, finished look and further accentuates the beauty of the product, eliminating traditional speaker drivers and associated grills, it added.

The product is said to blend beautifully with all décor. The connectivity takes a new high with 3 HDMI ports, SIMPLINK convenience and USB 2.0 connectivity. One can play back divx / Xvid / AVI / MPG / MPEG / MPE movie files, MP3 audio files and jpeg photographs on the big plasma screen through USB connectivity.

The main features of the product are that its HDMI 1.3 deep colour not only supports 30-bit, 36-bit and 48-bit color depths but also enables increased contrast ratio and can represent many times more shades of gray between black and white. It also offers faster, easier access to multimedia and allows enjoying analogue video files.
