LG lines up new PC models for the New Year

South Korean consumer electronics giant, LG has lined up a number new products for the New Year, including LG Ultra PC model 13Z940.

The company released a picture of the new Ultra PC model 13Z940, which comes in a new design and is lighter than the previous PC, weighing less than 1kg. The PC comes with extended battery life, great graphics, and offers a Reader Mode, which allows users to change the background of any image on the PC to paper to help reduce eye-strain and battery life.

Among the new products are: the LG Tab-Book 2 and the LG All-In-One (AIO) PC. The Tab-Book 2, which comes in two models; the flagship model 11T40, weighing 1.05 kg, was developed for those on the go. It has a fourth generation Intel Core i5 processor for outstanding performance. The flagship model's lighter sibling, 11T540 weighs 930 kg.

The LG All-In-One (AIO) PC can function both as a computer or a television. It can switch between both with a touch from the remote and also features a Picture-In-Picture (PIP) that allows users to watch TV and browse the internet at the same time.

According to a report in Daily Bhaskar, the company would introduce the Ultra PC and four other new products at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next month. The show would open 7 January and continue till 10 January.

According to Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business division at LG Electronics Home Entertainment, the new products being introduced offered an important advantage, versatility.

The 13Z940 is powered by a Haswell-based Core i5 processor with up to 256GB of SSD storage, while the laptop is 13.6 millimeters at its thickest point. The screen comes with a 4.4 millimeter bezel. The PC comes with what LG calls a reader mode, that allows users to "alter the background of any on-screen image to resemble paper, reducing eye-strain and energy consumption," the company said.

The new all-in-one PC comes with a 27-inch full HD screen and a GeForce GT 740M graphics card from Nvidia. LG hopes that it would be used, both a computer and a TV. Using the included remote it can be switched from computer to TV mode without the need to reboot the PC, according to LG.

LG has not yet offered details as to the pricing or when the new products would become available, but that might be announced at CES.

Other products, the company said that would be on show in Las Vegas would include an all-in-one PC running Google's Chrome OS and a curved 105-inch 4K TV with a 21:9 aspect ratio, which made it wider than the traditional widescreen TVs.
