LG looks to three-fold spike in revenues, launches ‘G3’ smartphone

Buoyed by the booming smartphone sales across price categories, Korean electronics giant LG today said it expected revenues from the segment spike three-fold this year, PTI reported.

LG looks to three-fold spike in revenues, launches 'G3' smartphoneThe report quoted LG Electronics India managing director Soon Kwon as saying the company was seeing very good traction and would exceed its target of Rs2,000 crore in revenues from smartphones in India this year, up from Rs800 crore in 2013.

He added the company had seen business in the first half of the year, from the category almost triple and the company was on track to achieve its 10-per cent growth target in 2014.

Launching its flagship smartphone 'LG G3' in Mumbai, the company said it was on track to achieve 10 per cent market share in the world's second most populous market.

The device comes with a price tag of Rs47,990 for the 16GB version.

According to commentators, like all current flagship Android phones, the G3 was a well-done evolution of the G2 and though the display size was larger at 5.5-inches, LG had managed to keep the dimensions closer to a 5-inch phone, which was highly commendable, Tech 2 reported.

The G3 now becomes the second phone in India to sport an Ultra HD resolution of 2560 x 1440. It features an IPS LCD display with good brightness levels which makes it easily legible outdoors.

The phone has an elegant feel and although it is somewhat slippery to grip.

The back portion has a brushed metal finish. It is removable too and the battery can be taken out, just like in the S5.

The rear mounted buttons are ergonomic when compared to the G2 and it is easy to find the right button without much fumbling.

The G3 has an evolved look to it and is the second best looking flagship in the market after the HTC One M8.

With the new design, the interface has been completely overhauled and LG has been successful in offering an aesthetically appealing UI. The new 'flat theme' comes out in the menus and icons.

The colour scheme and the look of the toggle switches and animations has won praise from reviewers. As far as matters of functionality are concerned LG had stuck with its tried and tested apps like QSlide and Quick Remote and had added a couple more to the mix.
