LG unveils 40-inch-wide TV screen

New Delhi: LG Electronics has become the first company in India to unveil a 40-inch-wide screen, Flatron plasma display panel (PDP). PDP, imported from Korea under the brand Flatron Plasma, synergising with its existing flat-screened products, is priced at Rs 5.4 lakh.

Touted as the worlds thinnest with screen thickness of just 7.8 cm, the new PDP Flatron has a very high resolution of 640 x 480 pixels (VGA, compatible with SVGA, XGA), and the high contrast ratio of 550:1 gives crystal-clear images. It is also equipped with 200-watt detachable speakers with digital audio surround sound (DASS) that provide the Dolby virtual sound effect. LG Flatron PDP is compatible with digital broadcasting and can also be connected to computers, DVDs and VCRs.

Says LG Electronics India MD K R Kim: "We are very excited to introduce the industrys only 40-inch PDP to India one of LGs strategic markets. High-technology, premium quality and premium products have always been at the core of LGs product strategy, and PDP has increasingly becoming the display product of choice for high-end consumers and is a major component in the new generation large-screen displays. We believe PDP will emerge as the number one product in the Indian market by early 2002."

Its slim, simple and highly-efficient design enables it to be mounted on the wall or on the ceiling, allowing the displays to be used almost everywhere at commercial and business establishments, or public buildings like airports and railways stations as well as for home use.

Ever since developing the worlds first plasma (30-inch) screen in 1998, the company has held the top position for the development and production of large plasma screens worldwide. The LG Electronics factory at Gumi, Korea, is the worlds second large-scale PDP factory in the world, capable of producing 300,000 units per year.

Currently it is also the worlds only company to mass-produce 60-inch PDP. LG aims to be the undisputed leader in the market by 2005, targetting a market-share of 20 per cent in the global market. It also plans to start large-scale production of all available models of 36- and 42-inch models, as well as the assembly of 50-inch PDPs by 2002.

LG Electronics India is the fastest-growing company in the consumer electronics, home appliances and computer peripherals industry today, and is continually providing superior technology products and value for money to its customers in India, says Kim.

The company has achieved a turnover of Rs 1,903 crore for 2000 and has outlined a turnover of Rs 2,500 crore for 2001. In the first half of the present year, it has posted a growth of 16 per cent over the corresponding period last year with a sales turnover of Rs 1,120 crore.
