LyondellBasell's Houston refinery unit back in production

Global petrochemicals major LyondellBasell today announced the restart of a crude distillation unit at its Houston refinery on 1 July. The unit, one of two heavy crude distillation units at the 268,000 barrels per day refinery, was shut down on 17 May following a fire.

Formed in December 2007 with the acquisition of Lyondell Chemical Company by Basell Polyolefins, the company is the world's third largest independent chemical company, with sales of $30.8 billion in 2009.

One of the world's largest plastics, chemical and refining companies, LyondellBasell manufactures products at 59 sites in 18 countries.

LyondellBasell products include packaging, electronics, automotive components, home furnishings, construction materials and biofuels. 

In June LyondellBasell Industries unveiled some innovative offerings it plans to exhibit at K2010 at Düsseldorf, Germany, from October 27 to November 3.

The reorganised LyondellBasell plans to focus on innovative products and expertise in new applications and markets resins and technologies that reduce raw material usage, waste, energy and CO2 emissions. The company said it planned to leverage its global material supply capabilities from assets located in all regions of the world.
