Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday launched small commercial vehicle 'Jeeto', with price starting at Rs2.32 lakh (ex-showroom Telangana) while Eicher Polaris has rolled out its first product called the Multix, with a similar price tag.

Mahindra's Jeeto claims to be the first ever product in its category with a modular range of 8 variants and was rolled out from the company's Zaheerabad plant in Telangana.

It comes with two engines - 11 HP and 16 HP - to cater to varied needs of the customers.

"At Mahindra, we have regularly created disruptions in the market with our alternative thinking and the Jeeto with its unique value proposition is a clear validation of this philosophy," Mahindra & Mahindra executive director Pawan Goenka said.

With a modular platform, the Jeeto is poised to redefine the landscape of the small commercial vehicle industry within India and drive positive change by providing its customers with a higher earning potential, he added.

Eicher Polaris's Multix, claimed to be India's first personal utility vehicle, is powered by a 500cc diesel engine.

Call it a car or a pick-up truck or a utility vehicle, the Multix is impressive and claims a mileage of 28.45 km per litre. It will take on the likes of Tata Ace and the newly-launched Mahindra Jeeto.

The base variant is priced at Rs. 2.32 lakh (ex-showroom, Jaipur) and the top model is priced at Rs. 2.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Jaipur). Basic difference between the two is the former has more open space for luggage while the latter gets a seat in between that can be folded to get a boot space of 1918-litres. The boot space without folding the rear seat is 412-litres. It gets a ground clearance of 225mm.

The Multix also gets a portable generator that can generate 3kW of power - the first of its kind in the Indian market. The generator will allow the consumer to switch on lights and fans in case of a power-cut. It can also be used to power an electric motor water pump in rural areas.
