M&M launches TUV300 variant for Rs8.87 lakh

Mahindra and Mahindra has launched the 100 bhp variant of the TUV300 is much like a regular TUV300, with only the engine being slightly different.

The vehicle is identical in almost every way, but modified to extract an additional 17 hp power and 10 Nm of torque, now rated at 102 hp and 240 Nm. The more powerful engine also powers the Mahindra NuvoSport.

Mahindra said the 102hp variant had been launched in response to feedback from customers who felt the TUV300 was short on power.

According to commentators, the road tests conducted on the TUV300 fitted with the original 'mHawk80' engine, had shown that the  car was very slow, due mainly to a poor power-to-weight ratio.

The TUV 300 had been launched with both manual and AMT gearbox options.

The 240Nm of maximum torque is available from as low as 1,500rpm, and makes for smooth delivery all the way up to 2,800 rpm, as against 2,250rpm in the older 'mHawk80' motor. The car extracts the much-needed additional thrust from this.

Mahindra has increased the length of the rear seat cushion inside, and added to the padding to improve under-thigh support for rear passengers. However, the low seat height of the rear bench relative to the floor still left passengers' thighs suspended off the seat.

The TUV300 variant is priced at Rs8.87 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai)

Speaking on the launch of the TUV300 with the all new mHAWK100 engine, Pravin Shah, president & chief executive (Automotive), M&M Ltd said, "At Mahindra it has always been our endeavour to incorporate consumer insights and feedback and hence we are happy to introduce the more powerful TUV300 with the mHawk100 engine. Further the TUV300 AMT T8 variant will offer a more thrilling drive with the upgraded power.

"With over 25,000 TUV300s on Indian roads, it has emerged as a strong playerin its segment. With its all new powerful engine as well as a winning combination of bold true-blue SUV design, premium & elegant interiors, superior driving pleasure and best in class safety, the TUV300 will become an even more compelling value proposition for our customers."
